What if I cannot obtain data on materials weight?

If you are unable to obtain information on materials weight, use the calculators approved by ÉEQ. You may also contact your association to find out whether it has developed an ÉEQ-approved calculator.

Important note

To use an ÉEQ-approved calculator, you must first contact ÉEQ’s Company Services. Only companies that are not eligible to an exemption or a flat fee rate for low-volume producers may submit a request.

Calculator Description Aimed at

Unit-based calculators in excel format (UBCs)

Refer to the list of eligible subsectors

Users enter data, product by product, according to packaging material category and volume or format subdivision (where the option is available).

The number of units will be paired with Éco Entreprises Québec data on the average weights of the containers, packaging and printed matter included with the products and will therefore determine the amount of the contribution based on the contribution table.

Companies that use these calculators should know the volumes and formats of the containers and packaging sold with each of their products (e.g. 250- and 500-ml steel cans).

Composite-based calculators (CBCs)

Online calculator available in the data tab of the ECO-D portal.

Refer to the list of eligible subsectors

CBCs are calculation tools based on the number of units sold. CBCs calculate the kilograms of designated materials based on the number of product units sold in Québec by a targeted company in a specific sector, including all products sold or possibly sold to consumers, regardless of whether the product includes packaging (taken into consideration when developing the calculators).

Companies with obligations related to products under a retailer’s brand and products for which they are the first supplier.

Targeted companies must also acknowledge and accept that the calculators may generate estimates of designated materials in material classes that are not applicable.

SECTORAL CALCULATORS

Online calculator available in the data tab of the ECO-D portal.

Refer to the list of eligible subsectors

Sectoral calculators establish the kilograms of designated materials (i.e. the weights of targeted packaging and printed matter) for which a company owns the brand, trademark or distinguishing guise or is the first supplier in a given Quebec sector based on reported amounts in dollars.

Retailers

The calculation is based on the cost of the products purchased and resold in Québec only.

Manufacturers, suppliers and distributors

The calculation is based on gross sales of sector products in the period, less the returns, rebates and cash discounts granted to customers by the company, including all products sold or possibly sold to consumers, regardless of whether the product includes packaging (taken into consideration when developing the calculators).

Sectoral calculators are tools available to companies that cannot gather data. It is important to note that the data are estimated from averages, and the total may not reflect the reality of your company or organization.

Les entreprises assujetties doivent également reconnaître et accepter que les calculateurs puissent générer des estimations de matières visées dans des catégories de matières qui ne les concernent pas.
