Meaningful progress to ease the transition to EPR

The Québec government announces financial assistance and regulatory adjustments

Éco Entreprises Québec welcomes the Québec government’s announcement of $27M in financial assistance. The funds will subsidize approximately 50% of the 2025 Schedule of Contributions, depending on the number of eligible producers, and ease the financial pressure on producers with annual revenues under $100 million as the province transitions to the extended producer responsibility (EPR) system.

ÉEQ will receive the funds and then redistribute them to eligible businesses to mitigate the financial impacts associated with the overlap between the old compensation plan and the new EPR system. We’ll communicate the applicable terms and conditions for eligible producers shortly.

Upcoming Regulatory Adjustments

This announcement is accompanied by the government’s intention to proceed with regulatory changes that will help strengthen the modernized curbside recycling system and reduce its costs over the medium and long term.

These developments are part of the work we started over a year ago to advocate for producers and address the challenges they’ve faced during the transition. We’re engaged in ongoing discussions with the government to follow the developments regarding potential regulatory changes.

Details and terms of this funding will be shared with our members as soon as possible.
