Nespresso Canada announces the expansion of its innovative green bag coffee capsule recycling program throughout Quebec, thanks to its agreement with Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ).
Quebec thus becomes the second Canadian province to accept the Nespresso green bags in blue bin throughout its territory. This move follows the modernization of curbside recycling and the introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) at the beginning of 2025.
All Quebecers can now put their Nespresso coffee capsules in the blue bin, thanks to an agreement between Éco Entreprises Québec and Nespresso that makes this simple, accessible practice available province-wide.
Capsules are easy to recover at home: simply place them in a green bag supplied by Nespresso, then place the full bag in the blue bin, just like any other containers, packaging and printed matter.
Green bags are offered free of charge with every order placed online, in-store or through the Nespresso Club, to facilitate adoption of this initiative by all consumers.
Once recovered, the capsules are fully recycled, enabling the aluminum to be reused, while the coffee grounds undergo a a biomethanization process in Quebec, producing high-quality compost.
"This recovery and recycling solution, developed through a partnership between Éco Entreprises Québec and Nespresso and made possible by Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), is part of the circular economy approach. Throughout Quebec, we are encouraging citizens to adopt proper sorting practices for containers, packaging and printed matter - and this now includes aluminum coffee capsules," said Maryse Vermette, President and CEO of Éco Entreprises Québec.
This solution is also available in select regions of other Canadian provinces, including Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, as well as throughout Prince Edward Island. The program, launched in 2016, is now in place in over 1,170 communities across Canada.
This marks a key milestone for Quebec and strengthens the foundation for the program's national expansion. Read the press release
