ÉEQ presents the latest version of its OptimEco.ca ecoresponsible packaging portal

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) announced the release of the latest version of its OptimEco.ca portal, which has become a key resource in packaging ecodesign in North America.

More user-friendly, built upon rigorous information and international standards and recognized for its innovation with a 2014 Novae corporate citizen award, the OptimEco.ca portal was enhanced with new examples of initiatives undertaken by businesses that reimagined their packaging options to reduce their environmental footprint.

Aimed at organizations that market containers, packaging and printed matter in Canada, the site sets out the key principles of packaging ecodesign according to four strategies:

  • Adopt responsible procurement criteria
  • Optimize design
  • Enhance the end-of-life management of packaging
  • Communicate the approach
In addition to constituting a source of innovation, these strategies could generate a range of benefits for businesses from the economic, reputational and environmental perspectives.

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) is the organization that develops the Schedule of Contributions and collects company contributions, which are then redistributed to finance municipal curbside recycling services in Quebec. ÉEQ also encourages innovation and sharing of best practices in order to optimize the recyclable materials value chain. To do so, ÉEQ cooperates, on the one hand, with companies to reduce quantities of materials at the source and encourage the use of recyclable materials, as well as with municipalities to increase recycling and the economic value of recovered materials.

ÉEQ is a private non-profit organization created by companies that put containers, packaging and printed matter on Quebec’s market to represent them. The organization was accredited by RECYC-QUÉBEC in 2005 in accordance with the Environment Quality Act.
