Fall 2014 is definitely geared towards optimization given the many initiatives ÉEQ and its partners have put in place, including the UQAM Centre de design’s Packplay project to encourage up-and-coming designers and discussions with municipal residual materials managers throughout Quebec participating in the Best Practices Initiative for curbside recycling! On another topic, as you know, the current legislative context will result in two reporting processes in quick succession, and we ask for your usual cooperation in meeting the upcoming payment calendar for 2013 and 2014 Schedules of Contributions. Thank you!

SUBMIT YOUR COMPANY REPORT BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2014 FOR THE 2014 SCHEDULE OF CONTRIBUTIONS; SEND IN YOUR LAST INSTALLMENT BY SEPTEMBER 26, 2014 FOR THE 2013 SCHEDULE OF CONTRIBUTIONS

Just two weeks are left until September 30, 2014, to submit your 2014 Company Report. That is also the deadline for providing documentation to support your request for a credit for recycled content. September 26 is the deadline for the last payment installment relating to the 2013 Schedule of Contributions, i.e. 20% of your 2013 contribution. Interest charges will be applied after that date. Remember that Company Services is available to guide you through the reporting process.

REVISIONS TO THE FINANCING FORMULA

ÉEQ has followed a participatory process since beginning its review of the financing formula by meeting with government authorities, packaging manufacturers and European eco-organizations. ÉEQ held its first meeting with the Steering Committee made up of company representatives, and another will be held with the Association Committee in September. All contributing companies will be invited to a webinar to be announced this fall.

EEQ, MAJOR PACKPLAY PROJECT PARTNER, APPLAUDS THE BRILLIANCE OF TOMORROW’S DESIGNERS

As a major partner, ÉEQ would like to congratulate the winners of the PACKPLAY project, announced at UQAM’s Centre de design on September 10th. This international packaging design project attracted more than 176 entries from nine Canadian and international universities. For the occasion, Maryse Vermette, President and Chief Executive Officer of ÉEQ, highlighted the brilliance of our next-gen designers who apply ecodesign to their work and congratulated Sylvain Allard, the professor in charge of UQAM’s industrial design program, whose efforts have helped advance the creative genius of young designers throughout Quebec and abroad. Ecodesign is one of ÉEQ’s priorities — via its portal, OptimEco.ca, it offers companies an ecodesign approach with economic, competitive and environmental benefits.

COMING UP: TAILORED VISITS TO SORTING CENTRES AND RECYCLERS OPEN TO COMPANIES AND MANUFACTURERS

The materials recycling industry welcomes you! RECYC-QUÉBEC is providing an opportunity to discuss your packaging challenges with curbside recycling professionals during personalized visits to sorting centres and recyclers. You will have the opportunity to learn about the concrete issues these key stakeholders deal with when processing the end-of-life containers, packaging and printed matter you put on Quebec’s market. Please reply to the survey (French only) by September 30 to help us better plan these visits according to the materials that concern you most. The visits will be conducted in French this fall on dates that will be announced soon.

THE 1^ST BEST PRACTICES WORKSHOP HELD IN THE LANAUDIÈRE REGION

ÉEQ held its 1^st Best Practices workshop in the Lanaudière region on August 27, 2014, in order to provide a discussion forum on curbside recycling best practices. With close to thirty municipal partners in attendance, participants shared their challenges and successes in recyclable materials management. Over the coming months, ÉEQ’s team will crisscross the province to discuss regional issues to identify, in cooperation with local stakeholders, the factors that help make this essential service a success. The next workshop will be held in the Québec City region on October 30, 2014.

The result? 15% fewer materials used and 300% fewer delivery trailers required! Operational time and cardboard procurement costs were also reduced. MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS SHOW ORGANIZED BY THE FÉDÉRATION QUÉBÉCOISE DES MUNICIPALITÉS DU QUÉBEC (FQM)

Visit us at kiosk 317 during the FQM’s Salon Affaires municipales on September 25 and 26, 2014, at Québec City Convention Centre to learn more about the curbside recycling compensation plan, the financing program for away-from-home materials recovery and other interesting curbside recycling optimization initiatives.

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) is the organization that develops the Schedule of Contributions and collects company contributions, which are then redistributed to finance municipal curbside recycling services in Quebec. ÉEQ also encourages innovation and best practices in order to optimize the recyclable materials value chain. To do so, ÉEQ cooperates, on the one hand, with companies to reduce quantities of materials at the source and encourage the use of recyclable materials, as well as with municipalities and other stakeholders to increase recycling and the economic value of recovered materials.

Created by companies that put containers, packaging and printed matter on Quebec’s market, ÉEQ is a private non-profit organization that was accredited by RECYC-QUÉBEC in 2005 under the Environment Quality Act.
