12 Phénix prizes awarded at the 17th edition of the competition

Québec, September 18, 2014 – The Phénix de l’environnement competition prizes were awarded during a ceremony today at the National Assembly. Selected by an independent panel, the twelve winners received their Phénix, the highest distinction with regard to environmental performance awarded in Quebec. What’s more, André Bélisle, founding president of the Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique (AQLPA), was inducted as the 40th member of the prestigious Cercle des Phénix.

Mr. David Heurtel, Minister, Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques and honorary chairman of the event, Mr. Jean-Denis Girard, Minister-in-charge, Petites et Moyennes Entreprises, Allégement réglementaire et Développement économique régional, Mr. Denis Brisebois, Chair of the Board of Éco Entreprises Québec, Ms. Éliane Hamel, Chair of the Board of the Fondation québécoise en environnement, and Mr. Benoît de Villiers, President and CEO of RECYC-QUÉBEC, were pleased to announce the names of the winners and present them with their prize.

The main mandate of the Phénix de l’environnement is to showcase and promote the excellence and know-how of Quebec organizations in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development.

Cercle des Phénix

On the occasion of the 17th edition of Phénix de l’environnement, Mr. André Bélisle was inducted in the prestigious Cercle des Phénix. He is its 40th member. Mr. Bélisle is a well-known and well-respected environmentalist, forestry worker and lumber producer who made his mark as the the founding president of the Association québécoise de lutte contre la pollution atmosphérique.

“People’s Favourite” and “Minister’s Choice” Awards

The online “People’s Favourite” competition, sponsored by Hydro-Québec, was held for the third consecutive year in 2014. The public was given the opportunity to vote for the finalist they felt had most advanced the cause. A total of 3,067 people voted online for their favourite. Having garnered the most votes for its “Semaine Carbure à l’efficacité – 2013” project, Collège d’Anjour received the prize from André Besner, Head, Environnement et développement durable at Hydro-Québec. Minister David Heurtel presented the “Minister’s Choice” $10,000 prize to Agence Mamu Innu Kaikusseht.
