Circular Materials and Éco Entreprises Québec join forces to advance innovation and the circular economy

Toronto/Montreal, April 25, 2023 — As Canada’s leading extended producer responsibility (EPR) organizations for packaging and paper products, Circular Materials (CM) and Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), are proud to announce plans to advance joint interests and initiatives aimed at optimizing practices to improve recycling rates and drive innovation.

This new collaboration is focused on evolving and sharing best practices to enhance performance, optimize operations, drive technological innovation and investments in recycling infrastructure in Ontario and Québec.

The two organizations are aiming to create positive outcomes that will enable investments in innovative circular economy technologies in Eastern Canada.

“The opportunity to collaborate with ÉEQ to build on best practices, innovate and drive efficiencies will not only support our respective organizations but also evolve the EPR landscape in Canada,” said Allen Langdon, CEO of Circular Materials. “This collaboration is very much aligned with our commitment to advance circular solutions by building efficient and effective recycling systems where materials are collected, recycled, and returned back to producers for use as recycled content.”

“Éco Entreprises Québec is pleased to collaborate with Circular Materials. This will allow us to optimize the impact of our respective actions and promote strategic investments in sortation, secondary sortation and recycling infrastructure in Eastern Canada. Adhering to common strategic objectives and interests of our organizations will avoid duplication of essential efforts in both organizations as EPR is deployed simultaneously in Québec and Ontario,” said Maryse Vermette, President and CEO of Éco Entreprises Québec.

By working together, CM and ÉEQ will maximize positive outcomes for their members, the value chain, and the public as a whole, which will support producers in meeting their EPR obligations in Ontario and Québec.

We look forward to sharing more as we evolve and work together to advance a circular economy in Canada.

Éco Entreprises Québec

Since 2005, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), a private non-profit organization, has represented producers of containers, packaging and printed paper regarding their financial responsibilities for curbside recycling. Designated as Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) in 2022, ÉEQ manages the curbside recycling system in Quebec from a sustainable development perspective.

As a leader in extended producer responsibility (EPR), ÉEQ develops, manages and provides circular economy solutions to its member producers so they can reduce their environmental footprint. ÉEQ places eco-design, recyclability and traceability at the core of all actions with its partners. ÉEQ will continue its role as the organization managing producers’ financial responsibilities in the compensation plan throughout the transition period to EPR.
