Consultations on the 2020 Schedule of Contributions: new format and record turnout

Every year, ÉEQ leads a special consultation, in French and English, in anticipation of the approval of the new Schedule of Contributions by the Québec government. At the annual event, companies have the opportunity to better understand the factors that impact their contribution to curbside recycling in Québec within the framework of an environmental accountability approach.

Following a preliminary consultation with business associations, ÉEQ chose to host this year’s special consultation exclusively online to ensure accessibility and lower costs. Against the background of the announced increase, no fewer than 350 participants from contributing companies, associations in the consulting sector and government agencies were in attendance on October 23.

Under the new format, Marie-Julie Bégin and Isabelle Laflèche of ÉEQ presented an overview of the context in which the recovery and recycling system is evolving, the rules and adjustments under the 2020 Schedule of Contributions and the causes and effects of the upcoming contributions.

After the statutory process was completed, a 30-minute question period was held, demonstrating companies’ interest in the organization that supports them in their obligation to fund curbside recycling. Once again, the session attested to the importance companies attach to understanding their responsibilities with respect to the containers, packaging and printed matter they place on the market.
