Packaging Ecodesign : Launch of the Latest Version of the Optimeco.ca Portal

Montréal, October 11, 2016 – Today, Éco Entreprises Québec unveiled the latest version of its OptimEco.ca portal—one of North America’s leading references in packaging ecodesign. Aimed at businesses that market containers, packaging and printed matter in Canada, the site has been redesigned and is now more userfriendly for a better experience.

Building upon international standards and references as well as rigorous information, the site sets out the key principles of packaging ecodesign according to four strategies:

  • Adopt responsible procurement criteria
  • Optimize design
  • Improve end-of-life management
  • Communicate the approach

When implemented, in addition to constituting a source of innovation, these strategies could generate a range of benefits for businesses from the economic, reputational and environmental perspectives. New examples of optimization initiatives were included to highlight inspiring cases of businesses that reimagined their packaging options to reduce their environmental footprint.

Available in French and English and recognized for its innovation with a 2014 Novae corporate citizen award, the OptimEco.ca portal has become a key resource in the packaging sector and is a valuable gateway for businesses seeking to undertake the approach.

About Éco Entreprises Québec

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) is the organization that develops the Schedule of Contributions and collects company contributions, which are then redistributed to finance municipal curbside recycling services in Quebec. ÉEQ also encourages innovation and sharing of best practices in order to optimize the recyclable materials value chain. To do so, ÉEQ cooperates, on the one hand, with companies to reduce quantities of materials at the source and encourage the use of recyclable materials, and, on the other, with municipalities to increase recycling and the economic value of recovered materials.

ÉEQ is a private non-profit organization created by companies that put containers, packaging and printed matter on Québec’s market. The organization was accredited by RECYC-QUÉBEC in 2005 in accordance with the Environment Quality Act.
