LAUNCH OF THE 2014 OF THE PHÉNIX DE L’ENVIRONNEMENT!

Québec, February13, 2014 – The partners of the Phénix de l’environnement, including the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement, de la Faune et des Parcs, Éco Entreprises Québec and the Fondation québécoise en environnement, are pleased to announce the launch of the 17th edition of the competition. Organizations in Quebec are invited to submit their application for these prestigious awards that recognize achievements in environmental protection.

For the second consecutive year, actor Sophie Prégent will act as event spokesperson and emcee of the awards ceremony. “Last year’s awards ceremony gave me the opportunity to see the great many exceptional environmental initiatives being developed in Quebec and how proud those involved were to have their efforts recognized. I am therefore pleased to again participate this year and invite anyone with a forward-looking environmental project to present it for a chance to win a Phénix award, the highest environmental distinction in Quebec,” said Ms. Prégent.

Registration for the competition
Organizations in Quebec must submit their application by 5 p.m. on April 15, 2014, in one of the following categories:

  • Municipalities and municipal organizations
  • Companies
  • Non-profit organizations, non-educational institutions and associations
  • Educational institutions and youth

For details on competition conditions and submitting your application online, go to the Phénix de l’environnement website at www.phenixdelenvironnement.qc.ca, or contact the competition coordination team by phone at 514-987-8094 or e-mail at info@phenixdelenvironnement.qc.ca.

After the applications are reviewed and winners selected, twelve Phénix will be awarded during a ceremony taking place in the fall of 2014.

The ceremony is also the occasion when a new member is admitted to the prestigious Cercle des Phénix, which brings together recognized Quebec personalities who have made a remarkable personal contribution to environmental causes. The Cercle now has 39 members, including Hubert Reeves, Jacques Languirand, Steven Guilbeault, Laure Waridel and Louis-Paul Allard.

Hydro-Québec’s “Coup de cœur” award
As the main sponsor, Hydro-Québec is proud to be associated with an event that includes nominations for the “Coup de cœur du public” award (or people’s favourite award) from among the finalists selected by the Grand Jury. These applications will be posted on the Phénix de l’environnement website for a month, and the public will be asked to vote for their favourite project. The winner will be announced by Hydro-Québec’s representative during the award ceremony.

Sponsors and collaborators
The competition is made possible thanks to the participation of sponsors and collaborators. Event partners wish to thank Hydro-Québec for being the main sponsor, RECYC-QUÉBEC as regular sponsor and all collaborators, including the Ministère des Finances et de l’Économie (MFE) and the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (SÉPAQ).

It should be noted that finalists, winners, event partners and sponsors will be able to take advantage of various visibility platforms offered as part of agreements with the #mardiDD (Mardi développement durable) initiative and Maya Communications.
