ÉEQ nominated to join the new action committee on the modernization of waste recovery and recycling in Québec

Mr. Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, during a meeting with members of the Conseil des entreprises en technologies environnementales du Québec (CETEQ).

As the Québec budget for 2019-2020 sets aside $100 million to improve residual materials management, the Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, Mr. Benoit Charette, announced the creation of an action committee for the modernization of waste recovery and recycling (link in French only), whose first recommendations are expected to be announced in June, 2019.

The objective will be two-fold:

  • Define a new role- and responsibility-sharing amongst the various actors in the value chain.
  • Determine measures to improve the current system’s performance in order to put forth practical solutions to the global recycling issue.

“The Minister can rely on ÉEQ to find long-term, sustainable solutions to modernize our curbside recycling system. We are pleased to cooperate with the action committee’s members and we salute its initiative.”

– Maryse Vermette, President and Chief Executive Officer, Éco Entreprises Québec

In addition to representing companies that market containers, packaging and printed matter in Québec and support them in their responsibility to finance the costs of curbside recycling in Québec, ÉEQ optimizes the value chain and implements innovative approaches with a view to sustainable development and a circular economy.
